WDAC Team Presents Research at 2026 NY Solid Waste Conference at Sagamore

Members of the Waste Data and Analysis Center (WDAC) team recently attended the 2026 Federation of New York Solid Waste Conference and Trade Show, held from May 17-20 at the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing, New York.

Throughout the event, the team hosted an exhibit table to share the WDAC’s recent waste characterization work. This allowed members to connect with a diverse group of professionals, educators, and experts in the field to discuss current practices in sustainable materials management.

On May 19, two WDAC team members presented their recent work. Dr. Firman Firmansyah (Research Manager) presented “Quantifying diversion opportunity in New York residential and commercial waste (2021-2025)”. Maeen Md. Khairul akter (Graduate Research Assistant) presented “Measuring municipal solid waste: A multivariate approach.” Both presentations were followed by a Q&A session, offering the team helpful feedback and practical perspectives for future research.

Other WDAC members in attendance included Dr. Elizabeth Hewitt (WDAC Director) and Sameena Manzur (Graduate Research Assistant). Sameena attended the conference as the winner of the Evan R. Liblit Memorial Scholarship.
