Sagarika Srivastava, a research student at the Waste Data and Analysis Center (WDAC) and the fifth-year PhD student in the Department of Technology and Society, has been awarded a $500 scholarship from the Zonta Club of Suffolk County for Zonta Women STEM Awards. Under the guidance of Dr. David Tonjes, the former director and the founder of WDAC, Sagarika is committed to learning about new technologies and approaches to advance recycling processes while considering the financial, governmental, and societal challenges associated with these initiatives.
The Zonta Women in STEM Award, presented by Zonta International, recognizes and uplifts innovation while celebrating the accomplishments of women between 18–35 years of age in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). It acknowledges groundbreaking research, pioneering discoveries, and meaningful contributions that advance knowledge and innovation in STEM fields.
This scholarship will enable Sagarika to continue her journey toward advancing waste management practices and fostering sustainability.

Congratulations, Sagarika!
