Maeen Md Khairul Akter, a PhD candidate in the Department of Technology and Society and Graduate Research Assistant in the Waste Data and Analysis center (WDAC), has been awarded the Christiansen-Roller-White-Miles Founders’ scholarship by New York State Association of Solid Waste Management (NYSASWM) and the Robert Stearns Graduate Scholarship by the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) this year based on his academic achievements, research, dedication and commitment to pursuing a career in solid waste management, sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Maeen is preparing to graduate in 2027 and for the last 4 years has been actively doing his research in solid waste. He is using a multivariate statistical technique to measure and compare waste systems identifying their similarity and differences with policy implications. His research also encompasses textile solid waste management and the sustainability of the global textile-apparel value chain. He wants to become a professor of solid waste and sustainability after graduating.
Reflecting on the two generous scholarship awards, Maeen thanked NYSAWSM and SWANA for the recognition and shared, “These two scholarships are a great motivation to advance my research and studies on solid waste and environmental sustainability and will support me build a career that helps contribute in making this world a better place for everyone.”
