Members of the Waste Data and Analysis Center (WDAC) team traveled to Lake Placid last week to participate in the New York State Association for Solid Waste Management (NYSASWM) annual conference, held from September 21-23, 2025.
Dr. Elizabeth L. Hewitt (WDAC Director), Dr. Yiyi Wang (Program Manager), and Dr. Firman Firmansyah (Research Manager) represented the center at the event. Throughout the conference, the WDAC booth served as a hub for interaction, allowing the team to connect with solid waste professionals and stakeholders from across New York State.

A highlight of the conference was a presentation by Drs. Wang and Firmansyah titled, “Conducting Solid Waste Characterization Studies Across New York State.” The session detailed the WDAC’s ongoing projects and methodologies, and was met with enthusiasm from conference participants.
Reflecting on the positive reception, Dr. Wang said, “We were excited to show the scope of our work and the importance of the publicly available data in shaping waste management strategies. The conversations we had at the conference encourage us to have more collaboration with our partners across the state.”
The event provided a valuable platform for WDAC to share its latest work and engage with key partners in the solid waste management community.
