Dr. David Tonjes, Director of Stony Brook University’s Waste Data and Analysis Center, was invited as a featured panelist at the Center for Sustainable Materials Management’s (CSMM) inaugural symposium. The event, held on September 20, 2023 a t the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry’s (ESF) Gateway Center, provided a collaborative platform for exploring the latest developments in sustainable materials management.
During his panel discussion, Dr. Tonjes highlighted the critical role of the Waste Data and Analysis Center in examining the composition of waste in New York State. His talk shed light on the importance of waste quantification in understanding and addressing the complex issues surrounding waste management.
A notable feature of the symposium was the premiere of a year-long film project highlighting the strides made by CSMM and its university partners, including ESF, Syracuse University, Stony Brook University, Alfred State, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The 30 minute documentary showcases collaborative efforts aimed at advancing sustainable materials management practices. Dr. Tonjes was accompanied by Dr. Firman Firmansyah, Sera Lee (PhD student), and Hayley Lee (Master student).
